Ratoath 5-08, Navan O Mahonys 4-10

Ratoath edged O’Mahonys in a thrilling reserve league game played on a bright Tuesday evening in Sean Eiffe Park.

Navan O’Mahonys started the brighter and within 15 minutes led Ratoath 3-03 to 0-00. After a few tactical changes from management Ratoath responded brilliantly, after a pointed free from Aidan Murray. Points from John Kirwan, Robbie Madden and a rejuvenated Eddie McGoldrick was the start of an unanswered scoring spree of 2-07 for Ratoath with  the goals coming from Murray and Madden. An O’Mahonys free left it level at half time 2-07 to 3-04.

Similar to the first half, the visitors started the second half the brighter and went 4 points up within 10 minutes. The introduction of the returning Connell Ahearne sparked life into the home side and his goal was the start of the comeback. Another point from Ahearne and a mis-kick from Robbie Madden resulting in his second goal, put Sean Ryan’s charges back in front. In an end to end game the Navan men never gave in and continued to stay within touching distance. Shane McGoldrick, Eoin Clayton, Paul Kirwan and Mick Lavin kept things tight at the back, whilst Evan Donnelly and Colm Nugent were a constant threat going forward. A goal late on from the excellent Aidan Murray was enough to see Ratoath over the line. Overall an excellent game of attacking football from both sides, which is rare these days. Man of the match: Aidan Murray.
