Moynalvey 1-10 Ráth Tó 2-5
Moynalvey deservedly shaded this first round Feis cup game played in dry conditions in Sean Eiffe Park on Sunday 5 February. Both sides came into the game understrength with a number of players on inter-county duty. That said, this was an entertaining game of football in the circumstances.
The home side got off to an encouraging start with Conor Rooney converting a ’45 and a free. From then on though the visitors had the upper hand and were in front at half time 4 points to 3.
Terry McGuinness’s charges once again made the better start after the interval and a goal from debutant Ryan Kelly put them in front. Darren Fay’s men though soon regained the initiative and with Padraig Harnan particularly prominent at centre back, they went back in front helped by a goal of their own mid way through the second half. In response Ratoath kept battling and raised a second green flag this time through Jack McGowan. Alas it was Moynalvey who finished the stronger and eventually ran out 2 point winners.
Best for Ratoath were Brian O’Connor, Gavin Quigley, Richie Lombard & Gavin Rooney.
