Ratoath’s Junior footballers were much the better team, as they made a flying start to the championship in beating Nobber comfortably in this round 1 fixture played in cool, dry conditions in Bective on Saturday evening.
Ratoath exerted their superiority early with a goal in the first minute and went into an early lead and went to take some excellent scores to go 5 ahead 1-3 to 0-1 after 15 minutes. Despite some wayward shooting the men from South East Meath continued to build on their lead and got their second goal with a well taken shot to the net in the 22nd minute. Further points ensued with Nobber getting their second score to leave the scoreline 2-8 to 0-2 at half time.
With Nobber having the advantage of the strong breeze in the second half they still had a glimmer of a chance and converted a couple of frees at the beginning of the half to give them a glimmer of hope. Alas Ratoath played the conditions well and took their scores more economically in the second half and could indeed have been further in front as they hit the crossbar on numerous conditions. The third goal did finally arrive in the 52nd minute and with further white flags raised in the final minutes the men in Blue and Yellow eventually ran out 21 point winners.
