Ratoath 2-13 St. Michaels 1-6
Rathkenny was the venue for the Quarter Final of the Junior C Championship.
Sean Ryan, Brian Daly and Mick Lavin were among Ratoath’s scorers in the opening half with Ratoath playing against the swirling wind. For St Michael’s, former Meath star Daithi Regan was keeping the Ratoath defence busy with a point form play and another from a free. The sides were level for most of the 1st half, until Ryan Kelly got on the end of a fine moving involving Paul Kirwan, Paddy Quinn and the energetic Richie Lombard and fired a shot towards the St. Michaels goal. It hit a retreating defender and went into the net to leave Ratoath ahead by 1-5 to 0-5 at half-time after an entertaining first 30 minutes.
Ratoath started the second half brightly with Frank Coyne, John Walsh, Leigh Sullivan all scoring and Luke Farrell stretched the lead with a fine effort after some great work by Eoin Clayton.
Substitute Niall Donnelly made an instant impact from the bench, when he placed the ball low and hard to the keeper’s right after a fine run. St Michael’s responded almost immediately, with a well taken goal of their own and Ratoath were fortunate that the men from Kilbeg didn’t score another goal with Mick Fogarty pulling off a fine save. Glen Reilly closed the scoring with a fine point to secure John Kirwan’s charges a place in the semi-final.
