Ratoath 0-10, Trim 1-07

Ratoath and Trim played out a entertaining Round 3 Junior D Championship match on a wet morning in Drumree.

Ratoath started the best and took the lead through a Toirdealhac O’ Neill free. Veteran forward Niall McGoldrick doubled the lead with another point and after a great move from Ratoath, Dessie Donnelly pointed Ratoath’s third point. Trim responded and after 15 mins they were level. Another good passage of play resulted in a great point from Paul Flaherty. Trim took the lead after taking a well worked goal. Toirdealhac O’Neill pointed another free to leave Ratoath trailing 0-5 to 1-04 at the break.

After the break Ratoath continued to dominate possession. A point from McGoldrick reduced the deficit to one point. Trim kept plugging away and scored another point to keep two between the sides. Ratoath faced an uphill battle after being reduced to 14 men midway through the second half. Two more excellent frees from Toirdealhac O’Neill reminiscent of a young Colm O’Rourke closed the gap to two. Substitute Shane McGoldrick impressed when introduced and his well taken point put one between the teams with 7 minutes left. Ratoath never gave up and with time nearly up Evan Donnelly kept his nerve to level things up. Both teams will be happy with a draw.
