The Ratoath girls took home the Division 6 cup after a terrific game with Royal Gaels in Kilbride last night.  Ratoath were focused right from the throw-in.  The midfield duo of Orla Hayes and Saoirse O’Kane were winning possession, linking up well with the half forward line of  Áine Foster, Shauna Minch and Rebecca McCormack,  and full forwards Shannen Conroy and Amy Beirnes.  This resulted in two goals in quick succession which were well taken by Shauna Minch.  Saoirse O’Kane added a point which further helped the Ratoath girls to settle.  It wasn’t all one way traffic however; the Ratoath defence were standing strong, closing down and turning around Royal Gaels attacks.  The half back line of Ciara Gilhooly, Orla Byrne and Aoife Foster were winning the battle and delivering good ball to our midfielders and forwards.   Lauren Geraghty in goals and the full backs Ailbhe Whitty and Róisín Corbett dealt ably with every ball that came into their area.  The Ratoath girls continued to link up well.  Clodagh Thomas was introduced.    Áine Foster scored a goal. Saoirse O’Kane and Shauna Minch added two points to our tally. As half time approached Royal Gaels scored a goal.   Áine Foster scored a goal for Ratoath before half time.

Half Time score:  Ratoath 4:3 Royal Gaels 1:0

Ratoath refocused on the task facing them during half time and started the second half with determination, with two points from Saoirse O’Kane and one from Shauna Minch. Royal Gaels were not giving up however, they scored a point and two good goals.  The Ratoath defence worked really hard, blocking, tackling and foiling the Dunshaughlin attack, denying them further scores.  Leah Whelan came on for Ratoath.  Ratoath kept their shape, covered and worked for each other.  Shauna Minch broke through the centre and calmly took her point.  Saoirse O’Kane added a goal from a tight angle. The last score of the game was a well taken point by Rebecca McCormack which came after a good passing movement between the forwards.
