At the OsKaRs  – What a Night it was on 14 Oct last!

The OsKaRs roadshow arrived in Tattersalls and the actors of Ratoath and Rathbeggan blew the critics away! According to KR events – Ratoath has been, by far, the most outstanding performer of 2017, in terms of what all the actors produced.

Tattersalls provided a stunning backdrop as the audience and actors arrived on the Red Carpet. The style from the actors and the audience was fantastic. Dave Harrington MC was on hand to interview the casts, many of whom arrived by Limos! Photographers from KR Events and The Meath Chronicle, as well as our very own Shay McGill were on hand to capture the evening on film. Many of the audience stated afterwards that they really had no idea what to expect, but were blown away by performances and the quality of the film production.

Who would have guessed that Colm Doyle, Brian Hayes and Co. had this hidden gift for the silver screen! Or Nick Killian, forever to be known as Bull! Or that Emma McGill and her colleagues from our wonderful Camogie and Football teams could and did have Tattersalls in tears of laughter as they took Bridesmaids by storm.

As for the The Hangover crew, they were far too believable….have they done this before? Luke Farrell surpassed himself in both The Hangover and Forrest Gump (even offering an impromptu song on stage). Aine O’Toole, the VP in St. Paul’s, who from the very start was a strong supporter of this project, put in a wonderful performance as Jenny, alongside a very realistic Forrest by Andrew Ralph.

The Snapper. Well what can be said? Ted Duggan had so many lines….the poor man has not slept in weeks! Aoife from SPAR was brilliant, as Jackie alongside the very talented Clare Green as Sharon. Fergus O’Riordan surprised us all…and probably himself with real talent shining through and what about Plum Reilly….a prisoner in Shawshank no less…along with Dara.

The MC kept everyone in suspense as the OsKaRs were announced.

  • First up we had our Highest Grossing Actor and Film won by Lyndsay Nolan and Bridesmaids
  • Best Supporting Actor and Actress went to Johnny Browne and Clare Dolan whom the audience took to immediately in the role of Mrs Doyle.
  • Best Actress was our very own Katie Callaghan who literally owned the big screen and took Tattersalls by storm.
  • Best actor went to Kieran Rushe who captivated the audience with his performance in Shawshank.

Competition was tight for best movie, the audience calling out their favourites. KR Events said they could not remember staging an OsKaRs whereby any movie could have won this OsKaR!

The standard was sky high in all the productions, especially when you consider that 95% of the actors have NEVER done anything like this before….what wonderful courage shown by all. In the end Shawshank just shaded it; the cast took the stage, jubilant and delighted – well done to all.

It did not end in Tattersalls, the Afters Party moved back to Ratoath GAA where unprecedented crowds danced the night away as Billy the DJ played the tunes.

At time of writing ,The OsKaRs Committee are still doing the final tally, however, we are very pleased to reveal that AFTER paying all our bills we have smashed €40,000 Euros PROFIT! This is down to the courage of locals across our community to act, to raise their own sponsorship, to businesses, big and small, who dug deep to become Gold and Silver Sponsors and to YOU who bought tickets for the event.

Huge efforts were made to ensure that good value was given on the ticket price and to our dedicated Social Committee including Lorraine Browne, Linda Leonard, Adrienne McGill who put on a great spread for all who returned to the club. A huge thanks also to our Gold Sponsors, Kendermar, DN-Smyth, Rural Wi Fi, Coleen Construction, Pat Gleeson & Associates and G O’Brien Crane Hire.
