Ratoath’s second adult hurling team got their Junior Championship off to a winning start against neighbours Drumree in Kilcloon on Wednesday 7th June. While the early exchanges were well matched, Ratoath pushed on towards the end of the half and two goals from Donal Ryan ensured Ratoath were comfortably ahead at the break.

A feature of the opening half was Ratoath’s Brian Farrelly and Alex Coakley taking  control at the middle of the park however the highlight of the first half was two long range points from former Drumree man, Ger Clarke, now the Junior Manager with Ratoath. Ratoath’s defence held firm throughout and was well marshalled by team captain Keelan Fahy.

Half time score: 2-7 Ratoath 0-6 Drumree

The early exchanges of the second half were again evenly matched and saw Ratoath missing several chances from frees however they composed themselves and pushed on again with five of their six forward getting on the score sheet, to finish comfortably ahead  at the final whistle. Notable mention must go to the defence who only conceded 1 point from play for the 60+ minutes of action that augurs well for the remainder of the competition.
