Division 2 All County League: Ratoath good win at St Colmcilles expense.

Ratoath  3-12 St Colmcilles 0-8

Ratoath overcame St Colmcille’s in this third round league game played in Sean Eiffe park on Sunday afternoon.

This started out as an entertaining tight match where Bryan McMahon, Eamon Wallace and Cian O’Brien pointed for Ratoath and were matched by 3 Colmcille’s points.

Paul Flaherty was black carded and replaced by Glen O’Reilly who promptly announced his arrival with a fine point to put Ratoath ahead. At this point Glen livened up the Ratoath play and played a key role turning the game strongly in Ratoath’s favour.

Cian O’Brien and Ben McGowan gave a display of high fielding at midfield and together with Brian O’Connor at Centre half back and well supported by Emmet Boyle and Enda Cahill all formed a strong defensive block and platform for launching attack.

Glen’s point was followed up with points from Eamon Wallace Bryan McMahon and Conor Rooney and a fine goal from Cian O’Brien which put Ratoath into a strong 1-7 to 0-4 lead at half time.

The second half started with a great movement where Terry McGuinness’s charges patiently moved the ball around teasing the Cille’s defence before driving through for a fine goal finished by Enda Cahill. This was followed by a strong run through by Conor Rooney for another well taken goal. After that the home side hit a succession of scores with points from E Wallace, B McMahon, C O’Brien, while Glen O’Reilly finished with another 2 Points. Any chance of a comeback from the East Meath men were dashed when they had a man sent off for a striking offence. As it was the home side eventually ran out comfortable winners by 13 points.

Subs: G O Reilly (0-3) for P Flaherty, R Lombard for C Rooney.
