Ratoath’s senior footballers are through to the knock out stages of the championships after a hard fought win over Rathkenny, in this 5th round game played in warm, dry conditions in Seneschalstown on Saturday evening last.

The game began with Ratoath on the front foot with Eamon Wallace, Conor Rooney & Daithi McGowan all getting on the scoreboard before Rathkenny replied with a point of their own. The half continued with Ratoath gradually building up a lead. Rathkenny kept in touch with Jack Gore and Keith Curtis raising white flags, but Ratoath, showing excellent teamwork, were full value for their 5 point lead at half time.

The second half started with both teams cancelling each other out, with each scoring 3 points in the first 15 minutes. Thereafter Davy Byrne’s charges pulled away with McMahon & McGowan sharing the scores, including a goal by the latter following good work by substitute Joey Wallace. A solid performance then from the men in blue and yellow and they can now look forward to the quarter final later this month.
